There is room around your TT BUT it felt like we were really crowded. The space behind us was right up to our TT. Children next to us climbed the tree roadside of our TT and they were looking right into our dining area - a bit disconcerting! A family campout used four spaces near us, pulled all tables together and raised several "pop up" tents to protect against the weather. Thank heavens they were very quiet as they could have been very noisy for the entire weekend. They enforce their 10:00-8:00 quiet hours! It was quiet ALL the time we were there. Lots of mature trees. It would be difficult to find yourself parked in direct sunlight. They have a fairly small pool but it was never crowded. If you are there to visit Lebanon as we were, you are so close downtown can be walked to. This is a nice campground, quiet with very little entertainment provided. Store is adequate, nothing fancy. If a problem arises, they are available to take care of it immediately (during business hours). If we were to return to the area, I would probably check out any other campgrounds in the area. This one would not draw me back but if nothing else, it is adequate.
TL rates this CG as 5.5/8.5/8.5 and that is probably exactly right. There are very few amenities: no WIFI, no store, no large, noisy play area, no swimming pool (they do have a small pond for swimming)and no shopping in the immediate area. The crowds will be kept down due to the above - very nice for what we're looking for. There is an attached trailer park - beyond the owners home and of the 45 sites, probably 25 of them are seasonals. Normally, we would keep away from this place, but it was too pleasant, too quiet, too peaceful - looking over the huge lawn and across the Sun Valley Pond across the road. Lots of ducks and lots of quiet - exactly what we were looking for. We will definitely return to this place - a nice place for the week end - a quick get away, if you are looking for solitude.
After reading the above review, we thought this might be just what we were looking for as we had to spend a couple days in the Chillicothe area. We arrived an hour before check in time (not many campers yet this year) but the manager was not available to assist us. Her husband couldn't find our reservation and didn't know which site was assigned to us - and there was no way for him to figure it out. It is our understanding these folks came from Wyoming and had purchased the campground sight unseen and was somewhat shocked to find out they had purchased this run down, poorly thought out park. We thought we had found a campground the public had not yet discovered. Unfortunately, the best was I can describe it is to say that with massive infusions of cash and ten years of work, they might bring it up to "primitive" standards. The entry office was not welcoming and it was difficult to tell exactly where the sites were. We drove through the grounds, having been told the flat area was at the rear. When we got up there, we were driving the wrong direction to back into the sites so we simply kept driving and went elsewhere. Campers, looking for primitive sites, will love it here. We are travelers that choose to travel with in a travel trailer, visiting the historical sites and museums. Relaxing in our unit at this CG wasn't what we were looking for. I hope others find it more enjoyable and up their alley.
Price reflects Good Sam discount on a premier (waterfront) site. Water could be a large pond or a canal that flows through the park. Nearly half the sites are on the water. When I review a park, I try to always start with an excellent score of 10 and discount shortcomings. This park is really nice with all the water. HOWEVER, I have to discount certain areas: There are many long term residents throughout the campgrounds. Construction workers and laid off factory workers from all over that have come to the area to work. No problem with this but many sites have oversizes propane tanks and lots of outside furniture lying around - some neat and some not so attractive. Secondly, the showers and toilets are superficially clean but behind doors and around corners there are too many spiders, cobwebs and just plain dirt! Basically, they were very dingy (deep down dirty). Wi-Fi works if you are close enough to the office and there is no cable television. Between Toledo and Detroit stations, however, many channels are available but none of the standard cable channels. No camp store and only yesterday's newspapers. Very nice and helpful workers - campworkers. Many residents are electricians, welders, and other skilled workers so if you need to have some work done on your trailer, this is certainly a place to be! Lots of very friendly folks willing to assist whenever and wherever needed. A very comfortable campground. If you can live with it's shortcomings, you will find this an extremely nice place to stay. You'll love listening to the ducks 24 hours a day!
This is an all-around trailer park. Rentals, long term residents and another section, a campground. Much of the campground is new and many more pads are being built. A very well kept park! A small store where we checked in and a larger well stocked store at the entrance to the campground. A very nice pond with a walking trail around it. WIFI is available at sites 1-199 or something like that - those sites CLOSE to the front office. Doesn't work in the campground area. We would return in a heartbeat. In fact, we stayed over an extra day because Bedford has so much to offer the traveler. Nice campground.
As stated elsewhere, this campground has the most awkward WIFI arrangement. You have to get the "username" and password daily from the office. If they don't open at 8:00 as stated (and I sat there waiting until nearly 8:30 one morning) - the internet awaits....and waits. I found the personnel to be helpful when asked, but not very offering of help and not friendly at all. The lounge area did have library books and magazines for campers use. Know ahead of time if you wish to be on the hilltop with some sunshine and ease of in/out or "down in the hole" with a gravel hill to climb out of upon leaving. No sun shines "down in the hole." Hard rains had created HUGE ruts in all the roads making the hill climbing really rough!! We had to do the most levelling we've done all summer. Four days and we never put our awnings out being "down in the hole." A great place to stay to visit Mt. Vernon, the Marine Museum, Washington DC and our new favorite, Stafford Hall, the home of the Lee brothers of Virginia that signed the Declaration of Independence and eventually gave birth to Robert E. Lee. Fredericksburg has so much to offer - antiques and Civil War sites. I would look around before staying here again. Of four campgrounds we visited on this ten day trip, both my wife and I counted this one as being in last place - better than a lot of others, but not of the three others we stayed at.
Definitely a work in progress. As I told them, I can't wait to see it as it matures! A very pleasant CG. We were alone in our section - three spaces away from us, cows meandered back and forth grazing! A very peaceful park! We simply overnighted on our way to Virginia but would definitely return if in the area - for a single night or for an extended stay.
Small camp sites with mostly narrow, uneven pads. Many pads have a dangerously steep drop off that could cause twisted or broken ankles, legs, or toes. Very little grass - mostly dirt and/or straw. Attractive because of the location - scenic Hocking County and within walking distance of Old Man's Cave or a short drive from many of the other caves and sites. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and stayed for three nights. It wasn't until Tuesday that the over-flowing garbage dumpster RIGHT NEXT TO OUR TT was emptied. It was full when we arrived but people kept putting their garbage in it, on it and close to it. Because of the many sites worthy of visiting in the area, a lot of people use this campground - pop-ups, tents and antique TTs. A very busy campground and with close neighbors, it is seldom quiet. Dogs bark regularly and we saw no attempt at quieting them. This is one of Ohio's state parks we will not return to - we'll leave it for the many, many folks that have NO interest in quiet, peaceful, enjoyable camping.
Freshwater swimming, fishing, and boating in the state park plus shuffleboard, horseshoes, playground and planned activities in the campground. Paved roads with paved pads 20' to 24' long (some with steep drop offs along edge). Nice showers and flush toilets. Every site was filled during our visit - significant outside traffic cruising through the campground areas. Quiet lake - mostly fishing but lots of room for speed boaters. A nice, quiet campground especially with so many people.
We had visited Dillon last season and were anxious to return in our own TT. This was our maiden trip and selected this park because it looked so nice when we last visited it. It was very comfortable - the store is well stocked and sites are well designed and maintained. We had a site with lots of mud but otherwise, we enjoyed our first night out - we stayed for three nights. We had a campfire nightly with our neighbors and found the entire experience to be very comfortable. There were tenters, class B campers and huge motorhomes in the park - all were very comfortably cared for. If you are looking for a quiet escape from the world, this is the place to visit. There was quiet 24 hours of the day - it was wonderful. There were playgrounds for the children and paved roads for the walkers and bikers. We would return to this campground without hesitation.
Having visited several of Ohio's state parks, we really found this one exceeded most in cleanliness, design, openness and separation of campers. We walked or drove through most of the camp areas to select our favorite sites and found many in different areas - we were looking for isolation, space available, lack of mud (it has been raining for nearly two weeks) and a combination of sun and shade. Many to choose from. There are pet areas - they are kept together and away from non-pet campers. We really liked this campground - all workers were helpful and very friendly. The rate reflects our Golden Buckeye discount of 50%. We will definitely return to this campground.
